GPS handhelds are small, affordable wonders of technology that fit into the palm of a persons hand. These portable devices are mainly used to determine a persons location. Today most PDAs and cell phones are GPS enabled.

Owning GPS handheld device is one way to make sure that you always know your location, and they make it virtually impossible to get lost. However, if you do get lost, all you need to do is click a button and your GPS service provider will be able to pinpoint your exact location.

Most people are enchanted by the capabilities of handheld GPS devices, especially when it comes to there navigation capabilities. A few years ago it was impossible to imagined just how easy it would become to interface with satellites around the globe, that can provide accurate information concerning a persons location and altitude.

These relatively inexpensive device are a testimony to the marvels of the modern day technological advances that are being made in this field.

In this day and age it is almost impossible to imagine how man was ever able to live without these wonderful gadgets. From their personal uses to their commercial applications, GPS handhelds made their way into almost all of our everyday activities.

It was the United States that pioneered the development of GPS handhelds, but now they are facing some serious competition from the Europeans. Europe has been working on a project named Galileo. The U.S originally developed GPS devices for military applications, but Galileo has been designed to specifically addresses civilian and commercial GPS needs.

The Europeans, have been focusing on improving the GPS devices that already available, and they are planing too produce and market affordable GPS handhelds that target the growing consumer market.

Of course, they are just a variation of the existing models that are all ready being sold, but they have a number of applications that will benefit, law enforcement agencies, justice services, transport and logistics systems, and fishermen.
