Drum n’ bass is a very popular electronic music style that emerged in the early 90’s.

It’s uses fast tempo broken beat drums (which often go up to 180 beats per minute) and heavy basslines.

There’s a huge range of styles which influenced drum n’ bass as a very particular style of urban dance music.

Breakbeat, techno, reggae/dub, hip hop, rave, jazz, are some of the stylistic origins of a genre of music that was born in London and Bristol , United Kingdom .

A list of classic drum n’ bass tracks would have to include: Ed Rush “Mothership”, Optical “To Shape the Future”, Roni Size “It’s a jazz thing” and “Share the fall”, 4Hero “Universal Love”, Goldie “Inner City Life”, Dj Hype “Roll the Beats”, Adam F “Circles”, Bad Company’s “The Nine” and many other beautiful tracks!

Drum n’ bass has a lot of sub-genres and variations which include: dubstep, hardstep, liquid funk, neurofunk, darkstep, techstep, drumfunk, breakcore, raggacore, jungle techno and some others.

Most of the variations and sub-genres of Drum n’ bass maintain the original bass and beat elements of the style but give it a different feeling by pushing the tempo up or down or by including voice elements (Mc’s) that perform in styles like reggae and hip-hop and also instruments like the saxophone, giving the tracks a more elegant jazzy touch.

Drum n’ bass tracks usually have samples from other sounds. Some very widely known examples of sampled tracks are: Afrika Bambaataa’s Planet Rock, Cypress Hill “I wanna get high”, Stevie Nicks “Edge of Seventeen”, Michael Jackson “I can’t help it”, A-ha “Take on me”, De La Soul “The game show”, Beastie Boys “The new style” .

Early pioneers of Drum n’ bass include Goldie, Andy C, Aphrodite, Dj Hype, Grooverider, Fabio, LTJ Bukem, Roni Size, Rebel Mc.

Drum n’ bass producers use a lot of appropriate software to make their beats and achieve their own style and unique sonority.

As technology evolves, it becomes more and more common to produce tracks in the comfort of our own home or computer. There are tons of software programs one could use to make tracks but the real deal is to use the best sounds possible and to shape them as we please.

Finding the right loops and drum and bass loops can be hard but there are sample libraries which include great drum and bass loops for the most experienced producer or the guy who wants to experiment at home.

Future Loops’ Nuclear Dn’B has the phattest drum and bass beats available to make groovy, powerful tracks that literally blow your headphones.
