Houston Johnson Space Center
One of the most visited attractions in Texas is Johnson Space Center. Situated about 25 miles south of Houston, the Space Center has played an important role in the development of the space program in the United States. While the Space Center is a working part of the NASA program, it is also extremely popular as a tourist attraction. A variety of attractions as well as events are hosted for visitors at the Space Center each year. Visitors are introduced to the program through an exciting film about the NASA space program. After the film, a NASA tram tour transports visitors around the center, stopping at various attractions, including the Space Vehicle Mockup Facility and Historic Mission Control Center. One of the most popular attractions at the Center is the Astronaut Gallery, featuring actual flight suits that have been worn by various astronauts over the years as well as photographs of astronauts who have been part of the space program.
The Center also provides interactive displays, including The Feel of Space, which provides the opportunity for visitors to experience the weightlessness that is felt while in space. A variety of educational programs are also provided for kids, including overnight programs.
